Meetings & Programs

Our chapter meetings are currently held on the second Wednesday or second Saturday of each month. The chapter does not meet June through August. Some meetings will be held in person, and a couple will be held online. We welcome guests and women interested in learning more about joining DAR. 

All meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and a program. For more information and the meeting location, contact us!

2025-2026 Chapter Meetings & Programs

September – The 10 Tea Parties. Most Americans only know about the Boston Tea Party. But there were at least 17 other tea parties across the colonies. We will share some of the history of what led to these protests and provide members with a glimpse into what took place along the Eastern seaboard.  

October – Focus on Women’s Health & Safety. Call to Action – Women’s Health & Safety: Let’s be proactive! Cancer incidences are on the rise, menopause, autoimmune disorders, and safety concerns are issues that many women are facing. Members are welcome to share their stories and learn from each other. How can we look out for each other?  Flyers or pamphlets with information will be available to build awareness.

November – Team Trivia Game: Famous Military People. Challenge your knowledge of history’s great leaders with this pub-style team trivia game focused on Famous Military People. Teams work together to answer a series of fun and thought-provoking questions about legendary generals, celebrated strategists and heroic figures from across U.S. history.

December – Rose Haven. Rose Haven is a day shelter for women and children that was founded 1979. Located in Northwest Portland, It offers low-barrier services to help meet basic needs along with providing emotional support to those in need. Especially those dealing with homelessness and trying to escape emotional and physical abuse. A representative from Rose Haven will join us and share more about their work and how we might be able to help with supporting their efforts. After our meeting we will enjoy a little social time while writing Valentine messages to our active military and veterans.

January (online meeting) – Do Good Multnomah. Do Good Multnomah provides housing navigation, case management, peer support and more to houseless Veterans here in Portland. Director of Development Sasha Tenzin will join us and share updates on Do Good’s programs, veteran success stories and more.  The chapter has been supporting Do Good Multnomah periodically since 2018.

February – Celebrating 130 Years of Service. As the first chapter in the State of Oregon, we have a lot to be proud of and excited about. Help us celebrate the chapters legacy of 130 years of service with friends and special guests. State Regent Martha Burrell will join us as we recognize our past regents, members and our history.

March (online meeting) – The Night of Terror. Celebrating Women’s History Month the Night of Terror tells the story of the night of November 14th, 1917, after peacefully demonstrating in front of the White House, 33 women endured a night of brutal beatings. 

April – SOLVE. Founded in 1969 SOLVE’s mission is to encourage communities to restore and protect our environment through action. Events to pick up litter in our neighborhoods, garden/grounds clean up, help on a farm, pull weeds, or habitat restoration. For Earth Month SOLVE will join us at our meeting to speak about its recent efforts, upcoming initiatives and how we can get involved.  

May – Chapter Annual Meeting & American Flag Program. We will hold our annual meeting which will include a memorial service for members lost in the past year, along with our business meeting and presentation of annual reports. Terry Maloney of the Mount St. Helen’s Chapter will present her flag program based on the book titled, Flag an American Biography.
