Why should you become a member?
Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution honors and preserves the legacy of your Patriot ancestor. Over two hundred years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, you can serve your community and country just as your Patriot ancestor once did. Through participation in the National Society’s various committees and activities, you can continue their legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic service projects.
DAR provides you the opportunity to:
- contribute to important service projects within your community and state
- honor and preserve the legacy of our Patriot ancestors
- form lifelong friendships
- participate in unique social and service-oriented programs within your community
- become involved in a variety of programs that provide something for everyone
- utilize your skills, learn new skills and gain valuable leadership experience
- establish a network of contacts in your community and all over the world
Eligibility
Any woman is eligible for membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution who is eighteen years of age, and who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor, male or female, who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death. No chapter may discriminate against an applicant on the basis of race, religious beliefs or ethnic background.
How to Join
To learn about membership requirements, please visit the NSDAR website which offers a wealth of information about the application process. When interested, a prospective member should complete a membership interest form, and a chapter will contact you directly.
Substantial genealogy research resources are available to the public and online at the NSDAR website including the Genealogical Research System (GRS) and
DAR Library, which are both convenient and world-famous.
